The strength of SRI’s model lies in its systems-based integration of economic, social, and governance interventions. Rather than addressing development challenges in isolation, the model links:
SRI promotes green economic participation among youth and women through the Youth Climate Action Accelerator. This initiative supports youth-led climate enterprises that provide sustainable income opportunities while addressing environmental challenges. The programme combines climate-smart skills training, business incubation, innovation grants, and mentorship to help young entrepreneurs establish viable enterprises in sectors such as climate-resilient agriculture, renewable energy, and sustainable value chains.
Beyond enterprise development, the accelerator also strengthens community climate resilience by promoting climate-smart agricultural practices, diversifying livelihoods, and introducing locally driven adaptation solutions. By linking enterprise development with climate adaptation, the model contributes to both economic empowerment and environmental sustainability.
The model integrates a strong rights-based and governance component that empowers women and marginalized groups to participate meaningfully in local decision-making processes. Through leadership development, civic education, and advocacy platforms, SRI strengthens community awareness of rights and promotes inclusive governance structures.
This component builds the capacity of women, youth, and other marginalized groups to engage in policy dialogue, participate in community governance platforms, and influence local development decisions. The initiative also facilitates advocacy forums and mentorship networks that enable community members to collectively address issues affecting livelihoods, gender equality, and social justice.
SRI addresses the prevalence of hazardous child labour in cocoa and artisanal mining communities through an integrated protection approach. The model combines community-based monitoring, value chain engagement, and education retention strategies to identify children at risk and provide targeted remediation support.
A central component is the establishment of Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation Systems (CLMRS) in target communities. These systems enable early identification of child labour cases, coordinated response mechanisms, and collaboration with local authorities and producer groups. The model also strengthens community child protection committees and supports school retention strategies to ensure that vulnerable children remain in education and protected from exploitation.
To address structural unemployment and underemployment among youth and women, SRI implements an Inclusive Skills to Employment Initiative that links vocational training, entrepreneurship development, and labour market opportunities. The initiative provides market-driven technical and vocational education and training (TVET), digital entrepreneurship support, and financial inclusion services.
Through partnerships with private sector actors, training institutions, and value chain actors, the programme facilitates apprenticeship placements, enterprise development services, and access to finance. This integrated approach ensures that beneficiaries transition into decent employment, self-employment, or sustainable small enterprises connected to local economic systems.
Through this integrated approach, SRI aims to achieve measurable improvements in:
Ultimately, the SRI Integrated Community Development Model contributes to stronger, more resilient communities where economic opportunity, social protection, and inclusive governance reinforce one another.
Alignment with Global Development Priorities
